series of four drawings about the conflict between origin and destination, to accompany this text:
we landed here a while ago, our boats rotted out from under us.
we've sunk into the grass- made contact with gritty mud.
skin bare against soil, an intimate touch.
the sun sets, and we cannot follow.
our toenails grow outward like searching roots-
dig into the earth and hold us still.
we whisper wildly among us. the future seems so bleak and strange.
we are divorced from motive. we are lost.
someplace far from here, a home waits for us, empty and crying,
and we cannot answer or return.
